DJ and Carolyn Clements are couple of trumpet players. Er…a trumpet couple. They met in a trumpet masterclass, played together in a few jam sessions, courted through concerts, and decided to be a permanent duet.
Seven years, two kids, and two degrees later, they’ve settled in Lehi, Utah and have begun a trumpet studio and blog to indulge themselves in everything trumpet. And, of course, to help students fall in love with the trumpet, too.
Carolyn holds a Bachelor of Music degree in trumpet performance from Brigham Young University-Idaho, where she studied trumpet with K. Newell Dayley and Dr. Ryan Nielsen. She served for a time as adjunct professor of trumpet at BYU-Idaho before moving to Utah for DJ to further his education. She is a member of Cityjazz big band and has also played with the Utah Philharmonic Orchestra as principal trumpet. She teaches an elementary trumpet class for Alpine School District. Carolyn is the primary teacher in the studio. Her foremost occupation is “mom-ing” two kids who hear way, way too much trumpet playing. In addition to music, Carolyn loves horses, hiking and backpacking, canyoneering, cooking, and reading good books.
DJ earned his bachelor’s degree in Music Education from BYU-Idaho. He is currently studying computer science at the University of Utah and working full-time for a software company. Of course, he would rather be playing gigs and teaching lessons…but someone has to fund the trumpet habits, after all. DJ is the man behind the scenes at Clements Trumpet. Due to his demanding school and work schedule he is not currently available to teach lessons, but his musical knowledge, perspective, and technological know-how influence everything that happens here. DJ loves to ski, hike mountains and canyons, fix things, and eat the food Carolyn makes.
